Mattia Di Pierro

Mattia Di Pierro is an adjunct professor and research fellow at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Milan. In 2019, he completed a PhD in philosophy, jointly supervised by the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and the Université Diderot in Paris, with a thesis on the thought of Claude Lefort. He has also been a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University in New York (2018), EHESS in Paris (2022), and the University of Ottawa (2024). He is the author of L’esperienza del mondo: Claude Lefort e la fenomenologia del politico (The Experience of the World: Claude Lefort and the Phenomenology of the Political) (ETS, 2020), Claude Lefort’s Political Philosophy: Democracy, Indeterminacy, Institution (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023), and several articles in nationally renowned books and journals (Filosofia Politica, Iride, Storia del Pensiero Politico, Etica & Politica) and international publications (Constellations, The South Atlantic Quarterly). He has also edited several anthologies, including: Istituzione Filosofia, politica, storia. Almanacco di Filosofia e Politica 2 (Quodlibet 2020) with F. Marchesi and E. Zaru; Pensare l’opera, pensare il sociale: la filosofia politica di Claude Lefort (ETS, 2024), with A. Lanza and C. Terra. Di Pierro is a member of the Laboratory of Philosophy and Politics (FilPo) at the University of Milan, where he coordinates the International Research Network Democratic Society – Nature, Subject, Institution. He is part of the editorial board of the series Institutio (IISF Press) – with R. Esposito, G. Preterossi, and F. Marchesi—the editorial board of the journal Storia del pensiero politico (Il Mulino), the editorial committee of the Almanacco di Filosofia e Politica (Quodlibet), the editorial board of the International Journal of Social Imaginaries (Brill), and the editorial board of the Imaginaries series (SUNY University Press).
